Max has released the official trailer for its limited series “The Sympathizer” based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
The upcoming series promises to be an exhilarating mix of espionage intrigue and cross-cultural satire, delving into the challenges faced by a communist spy of mixed French and Vietnamese heritage during the tumultuous final days of the Vietnam War and his subsequent exile in the United States.
Robert Downey Jr. is slated to portray multiple supporting characters, each embodying a different facet of the American establishment and serving as the primary antagonists throughout the series.
Joining the cast are Sandra Oh, Kieu Chinh, Ky Duyen, Hoa Xuande, Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, Alan Trong, Duy Nguyen, Kayli Tran, and VyVy Nguyen.
Filming took place in Los Angeles and Thailand, with the series set to premiere on April 14th. HBO, A24, and Rhombus Media are producing the series in collaboration with Cinetic Media and Moho Film.
