Amazon has just secured the rights for the distribution of the cinematic adaptation of the book “Best of Enemies: The Last Great Spy Story of the Cold War,” written by Eric Dezenhall and Gus Russo. According to Deadline, the streaming giant will release the production titled “Best of Enemies,” featuring Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale.
Audiences can anticipate not only an online screening but, more importantly, a theatrical release, thanks to a collaboration between Amazon and MGM Studios.
Interestingly, eight interested parties vied for the rights to this adaptation. Apart from Amazon, representatives from Warner Bros. were also eyeing the distribution possibilities. Eric Warren Singer has been named as the screenwriter for the upcoming film, with Charles Roven, Madison Weireter, and Ryan Sanak serving as producers from Atlas Entertainment.
The action of the “Best of Enemies” movie will be set during the Cold War era, chronicling the stories of two spies. Working for the CIA is Jack Platt (Cooper), and on the other side is KGB agent Gennady Vasilenko (Bale). Though initially supposed to be adversaries with entirely conflicting orders, the two men eventually became… great friends.
The release date for this project is yet to be announced.
