The Best Romances Seen on Screens For All Generations

199views

Ask most couples what they like to do together, and watching movies will be somewhere on the list. One of the biggest draws of movies are the inspirational and aspirational couples that are featured. This isn’t limited solely to romantic films. Amazing couples can be found in any genre. Here are some examples of these romantic favorites.

Some of Our Favorite On-Screen Couples and Relationships

How did we pick our favorites? That took a lot of research. Although, that part was quite enjoyable. We wanted to build a list from a wide range of films. Yes, there are romantic comedies and sweeping dramas here, but also a few movies that may not be on everybody’s radar. We’ve also snuck in one small screen reference.

Sophie and Howl (Howl’s Moving Castle)

We’re starting off strong with what is probably one of the most well-developed romances in a film, with the story of Howl and Sophie. The film, “Howl’s Moving Castle” features the story of Sophie, a young woman who is cursed by the Witch of the Waste to look like an old woman. She then meets Howl and takes refuge in his castle as his cleaning lady. By simply being herself, the curse slowly disappears, and her true beauty is revealed to Howl. Ultimately, the two fall in love with each other once Sophie is able to restore Howl’s heart to him.

This is one of our favorite films because ultimately all Sophie has to do is be herself. The transformation from old to young is so gradual and times that we don’t even realize it is happening, so there is no big reveal or transformation that makes her deserving of love like in some movies.

Carl And Ellie (Up)

Although their relationship on screen only makes up about 5 minutes of the entire run time of the film, we see just how much Carl and Ellie love each other in just those few minutes. From the time the two first meet as children to Ellie’s death from undisclosed circumstances.

We get to see first hand how they connect with each other, the trials, and tribulations that they go through that many couples also go through. Such as infertility, the types of careers they had together, and of course the hard work they put into fixing up that old house the two of them had once played in as children. Carl and Ellie are one of the best examples of how love can overcome anything.

Ember and Wade (Elemental)

Despite the backlash this film received due to the marketing team’s strange obsession with the character Clod, who is barely in the film anyway, Elemental is actually a wonderful film with references to racial tension and breaking down those Racial barriers. Ember, a fire elemental meets Wade, a water elemental. Despite being opposites in every possible way, Ember and Wade find themselves drawn to each other.

Throughout the film the two of them find themselves dealing with a lot of elementals, or racial tension. This is something that sadly many mixed raced couples have to deal with in their lives. This is what makes the relationship so relatable for many couples.

Jack and Rose (Titanic)

Nobody can talk about these two without mentioning “The Door”, however we’re going to ignore the door for now. There is a reason why this film is so incredibly popular with the masses. So popular, in fact, that it is still constantly referenced and memed even to this day, despite being released over 25 years ago.

Throughout the film, we see these two fall in love over the course of just a few days. The time they spent together was filled with quality memories and love. Having Jack die was likely one of the most tragic moments in the film. This film shows that quality over quantity is always the best when it comes to any relationship. Even if it relates to time.

Greg and Rose (Steven Universe)

Rose may have been revealed to not have been the best person, as her years of deceit managed to knock her down from the pedestal. Of course, we just can’t ignore the fact that we saw her character development in reverse and have learned that despite doing some awful things, Rose was able to become a wonderful gem over time.

Even though we only see snippets of their relationship throughout the series, Greg and Rose do love each other. They develop an understanding and respect for one another which gives their relationship, albeit short lived, the quality that many of us crave.

Tiana and Naveen (The Princess and the Frog)

Tiana and Naveen are two character’s whose love developed with a change of perspective for one, and a large amount of respect developed for the other. Throughout the film these two, while being frogs, just meld together in the best of ways. Naveen shows Tiana that there is much more to life than just working herself to death. While Tiana shows Naveen that there is pride in the results of a hard day’s work. These two polar opposites balance each other in just the right way.

Conclusion

Whether you are still waiting to meet your partner, or have already achieved your relationship goals. These couples are only a small handful in the world of wonderful character’s that make us think that romance can exist.
