“Michael” has moonwalked past expectations with a $217 million global opening weekend, delivering one of the biggest debuts ever for a music biopic — even as critics and controversy swirl around the film’s portrayal of the King of Pop.

Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Michael, Antoine Fuqua’s biopic exploring the life and legacy of Michael Jackson — tracing his path from a child prodigy in Gary, Indiana, to one of the most influential entertainers in history. The teaser will also screen in theaters ahead of Now You See Me: The Final Act.

Fans awaiting the King of Pop’s biopic will have to wait a tad longer. The Michael Jackson biopic is officially moving from its earlier October date to April 24, 2026. The six months delay is said to have stemmed from an extensive reshoots and editing process to streamline its lengthy first cut. ”Michael” stars Jaafar Jackson - Michael’s own nephew - as the titular pop superstar, with Antoine Fuqua directing from a script by John Logan.

Tito Jackson, Michael Jackson’s older brother and one fifth of legendary musical act The Jackson 5, has died at the age of 70. The blues musician’s sons Taj, Taryll and TJ broke the news via Instagram. 

The first image of the actor portraying the main role in the biographical film about Michael Jackson has been released online.
