New ‘Jason Bourne’ Movie in the Works at Universal

482views

Jason Bourne is making a comeback. As reported by Deadline, Universal Pictures has initiated preliminary work on a new cinematic production centered around this well-known CIA literary agent.

The work is in a very early stage, with ongoing discussions with a potential director. According to sources, the new film may be helmed by Edward Berger, who directed last year’s Oscar-winning hit, “All Quiet on the Western Front.” Could the new adventures of Jason Bourne maintain a similar serious tone? We will find out soon enough.

Jason Charles Bourne is a fictional character created by Robert Ludlum, a CIA-trained secret agent. Bourne is the main character in three of Ludlum’s novels: “The Bourne Identity,” “The Bourne Supremacy,” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” After the author’s death, the series of Bourne’s adventures was continued by Eric Van Lustbader, who wrote additional books: “The Bourne Legacy,” “The Bourne Betrayal,” “The Bourne Sanction,” “The Bourne Deception,” “The Bourne Objective,” “The Bourne Dominion,” “The Bourne Imperative,” “The Bourne Retribution,” “The Bourne Ascendancy,” “The Bourne Enigma.”

In 1988, based on the first novel, a television miniseries called “The Bourne Identity” was made with Richard Chamberlain in the lead role. In 2002, Matt Damon portrayed Bourne in the film adaptation of “The Bourne Identity.” Subsequently, other parts were made, namely “The Bourne Supremacy” (2004) and “The Bourne Ultimatum” (2007). The theatrical release of the fourth installment, titled “The Bourne Legacy,” took place on August 10, 2012, and in 2016, a film titled “Jason Bourne,” directed by Paul Greengrass, also featuring Matt Damon in the lead role, premiered on July 27, 2016.

Currently, it is unknown whether Matt Damon will reprise the role of Jason Bourne in the new film. The release date also remains undisclosed.
