The next chapter of the Matt Reeves–helmed Batman saga is shaping up to deliver big changes. According to recent reports, Zoe Kravitz isn’t expected to reprise her Catwoman role for The Batman Part II. In her place, Marvel and Jurassic World star Scarlett Johansson is in serious talks to join the cast – adding yet another major title to her repertoire of blockbuster franchises.
Variety and multiple industry outlets cite “sources with knowledge of the production” who say Kravitz — whose Selina Kyle ended the first film riding off on a motorcycle — will not be part of the sequel. Instead, Johansson is reportedly being courted for a “significant role opposite” Robert Pattinson’s Batman, though the exact character remains under wraps.
Speculation among fans and comic-book circles points to a handful of possible identities, from love-interest journalist to one of Gotham’s notorious villainesses: names like Poison Ivy, Vicki Vale, or even Andrea Beaumont (aka the Phantasm) are being floated. But insiders caution that nothing has been finalized.
On another note, Pattinson is confirmed to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, with supporting players such as Colin Farrell’s Penguin and Andy Serkis’ Alfred Pennyworth expected to return. Production is slated to begin in spring 2026, with a scheduled theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
Reeves’ The Batman was released in 2022 as a standalone reboot separate from the larger DC cinematic universe. The film – which took inspiration from the comic Batman: Year One and The Long Halloween – was a critical darling and a commercial success, grossing $772 million worldwide. Despite the huge success, a sequel took way longer than expected – but now, the wait is almost over (well, in nearly two years).
