Will Fast & Furious Ever End? Universal Plans More Movies

Does the Fast and Furious franchise still have enough gas in the tank to go the long distance? Universal seems to think so.

In his Thanksgiving post on Instagram recently, star Vin Diesel shares an update that gets fans rumbling about the future of the vehicular blockbuster franchise.

“I got Universal in one ear saying we need FastX2 by March 2026! I have Concast in the other ear saying we need two movies to be the Finale! Then the writer on Fast Five sent me this image and said we need to see DOM and HOBBS resolve their differences,” Diesel wrote alongside a photo of him and former castmate Dwayne Johnson on the set of Fast Five

He ended the post on a slightly bittersweet note. “I just want to get back to real street racing, practical stunts… and a reunion of that beautiful brotherhood.”

Diesel’s latest comment hints at some scuffle behind the scenes. When it was released in May 2023, Fast X massively underperformed both critically and commercially. Since then, the film’s producers seem to be in damage control for the supposed Part 2 of a two-part finale for the franchise, which had its start in 2001. This results in an indefinite delay for the film. Earlier on, Diesel’s other co-star, Tyrese Gibson, admitted that he hadn’t received any script yet, despite rumors that production is slated to begin in early 2025.

Diesel, who serves as a producer on the franchise, would be among the first to be in on the fate of the film. His recent post would indicate that the studio and its parent company, Comcast – which the actor appears to purposely misspell – can’t seem to agree on the direction the franchise needs to take.
