In an unusual (but totally not unpredictable) move from Netflix, the streamer has greenlit a third season for its hit teen supernatural series “Wednesday” before the second season even drops. Starring Jenna Ortega as the titular antiheroine, part 1 of the second season of Wednesday will debut on August 6, followed by part 2 on September 3.
In a statement, co-creator and co-showrunner Alfred Gough credited the series’ wide appeal and massive team efforts for its swift renewal.
“[Co-creator and co-showrunner] Miles [Millar] and I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans. We remain grateful and excited to continue this journey and tell these stories with all of our partners,” he said.
Released in 2023, the first season of Wednesday became Netflix’s most watched English language series in history. The series follows the Addams Family daughter as she attends Nevermore Academy, where supernatural kids abound and mysteries lurk in every corner.
Season 2 will delve into darker storylines, while retaining its signature macabre humor, courtesy of director Tim Burton. As for the just announced season 3, Gough and Millar are tight lipped but did promise to continue digging deeper into the characters while expanding Wednesday’s universe. They also teased more Addams family members and secrets coming up. Cousin Itt, anybody?
