With Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning currently tearing it up at the global box office, Tom Cruise’s exhilarating stunt in the film also notched an impressive feat. The film’s death defying biplane stunt just got awarded the Guinness World Record for the “most burning parachute jumps by an individual” for leaping out of a helicopter 16 times before lighting his chute on fire in The Final Reckoning.
“Tom doesn’t just play action heroes — he is an action hero!” the Guinness World Records said in a statement. “A large part of his success can be chalked up to his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing the boundaries of what a leading man can do.”
Cruise, who played secret op agent Ethan Hunt in the film, “completed fiery 16 drops in the quest for the perfect action shot. And in some of these jumps, he even has a 50 lb snorri camera rig attached to his body to capture a close-up look of the exhilarating fall.”
Behind-the-scene video of the stunt was released, showing the intricate process taking place before the actual performance. Proving his commitment, at one point Cruise can be heard saying he would be “spinning and burned” if a particular move couldn’t be executed in 10 seconds.
This isn’t Cruise’s first world record. The star also holds a box office Guinness World Records title for the most consecutive $100-million-grossing movies (actor) for his 11 films between Jack Reacher (2012) and Mission: Impossible –The Final Reckoning(2025).
