Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez Reunite for Illumination’s Animated Adventure “Not Alone”

Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are headed back to the big screen together. Universal and Illumination have unveiled the first trailer for Not Alone, an original animated sci-fi adventure that reunites the actors seven years after they shared the screen in Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York. The film also marks Chalamet’s first leading voice role in an animated feature.
Directed by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan del Val, Not Alone follows Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic voiced by Chalamet, and Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist voiced by Gomez, who has developed the world’s first plant-powered rocket. As the unlikely duo prepares for its maiden voyage, their mission is thrown into chaos when three mischievous alien fugitives secretly board the spacecraft while fleeing the determined Officer Zandro. The voice cast also includes Brett Goldstein, Allison Janney, Lamorne Morris, Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou.
The project was first announced during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where Illumination showcased the original feature as part of its upcoming slate. The newly released trailer leans into the studio’s signature blend of comedy, heart and colorful animation while teasing a budding friendship—and possible romance—between Joe and Fran as they navigate an intergalactic adventure.
For Chalamet and Gomez, the collaboration marks a return after A Rainy Day in New York, the 2019 romantic comedy in which they appeared alongside Elle Fanning. Since then, both have become among Hollywood’s most in-demand stars, each balancing blockbuster franchises with prestige projects. Chalamet has “Dune: Part Three” due out in the fall, while Gomez continues starring in “Only Murders in the Building” and expanding her producing slate following the acclaimed “Emilia Pérez”.
“Not Alone” is slated to open in theaters on April 16, 2027.
