“The Vampire Diaries” Stars Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley To Reunite For A New Book Adaptation

Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are heading back to the small screen together. Nearly 10 years after the end of The Vampire Diaries, the actors have signed on to star in Hulu’s adaptation of Aggie Blum Thompson’s novel You Deserve to Know, reuniting the duo whose chemistry helped turn the CW supernatural drama into one of the biggest young adult series of the 2010s.

The project, currently in development at Hulu, is based on Thompson’s 2025 novel of the same name. Written and executive produced by Brian Tanen, the thriller centers on three suburban couples who are best friends and next-door neighbors. Their seemingly idyllic lives begin to unravel when one of the husbands is murdered, exposing a web of secrets, betrayals and long-buried tensions. Dobrev will play Gwen, while Wesley is set to portray Scott, two neighbors who find themselves on opposite sides of the investigation. Both actors will also serve as executive producers.

The reunion is likely to delight longtime fans of The Vampire Diaries, where Dobrev and Wesley starred as Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore. The CW drama ran for eight seasons between 2009 and 2017 and became a global phenomenon, spawning spinoffs The Originals and Legacies. The series transformed both actors into international stars and remains one of the network’s most successful franchises.

Behind the scenes, You Deserve to Know boasts a notable creative team. In addition to Tanen and Thompson, executive producers include Alex Cooper’s Unwell banner, Aaron Kaplan, Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre. The project landed at Hulu following a competitive bidding process.

In the years since The Vampire Diaries concluded, both actors have expanded their careers beyond Mystic Falls. Dobrev has been balancing acting and producing duties on projects including General Admission and the adaptation of It Happened One Summer, while Wesley has appeared in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and remained active as a producer. While the reunion is far less supernatural than the show that propelled them to fame, fans are no less ecstatic to see the duo share the same screen once more.
