The Board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the creation of a new Oscar category – “Best Casting.” The statuette in this field will be awarded for the first time in 2026 during the 98th Oscars ceremony.

Films released in 2025 will be eligible to compete for the first Best Casting Oscar. Detailed rules for awarding the Oscar in this category will be announced in April 2025.

The Academy last decided to create a new category in 2001, introducing the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Since then, no new category has been added.

The upcoming 96th Oscar ceremony is scheduled for March 10. As expected, “Oppenheimer” emerged as a major winner of this year’s nominations. Christopher Nolan’s work received a staggering 13 nominations, including all major categories.

Not far behind is “Poor Things” with a chance to win 11 Oscar statuettes. “Killers of the Flower Moon” also performed exceptionally well, securing 10 nominations. In fourth place is “Barbie” with 8 nominations.
