“The Jetsons” Live Action In The Works With Jim Carrey

“The Jetsons”, the beloved 1960s cartoon about a family living in a retro-futuristic world, is making the jump from 2D to reality. And comedy powerhouse Jim Carrey is reportedly orbiting the movie to play the patriarch of the titular family in the Hanna Barbera classic.

Additionally, “Jurassic World” helmer Colin Trevorrow is in negotiations to direct and co-write the project for Warner Bros. Pictures. While an official deal has yet to be inked, the pairing of Carrey and Trevorrow has already lit up development chatter.

As you can guess, Carrey is in talks to play the role of George Jetson, the “everyman dad” of the star-fleet family living in Orbit City, surrounded by flying cars, robot maids, and all the space-age gadgets a 1960s cartoon could imagine. Trevorrow is said to be working with writer Joe Epstein on a script that re-imagines this futuristic family comedy for the modern big screen.

For Carrey, the timing makes sense. After hinting at stepping back from major roles, he’s recently taken on the dual role of Dr. Robotnik and Gerald Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise — and appears ready to lean back into a full-on comedic-icon performance. “The Jetsons” itself aired in 1962–63 (with a revival in the 1980s) and depicted a world of futuristic domesticity and playful sci-fi whimsy — the kind of playground Carrey has always thrived in.

While the project is still early and details remain fluid, the notion of Jim Carrey piloting the Jetson family into live-action Hollywood is a buzzy one. Known for his elastic facial expressions, comedic timing, and blockbuster hits like The Mask, Dumb & Dumber and Bruce Almighty, Carrey brings both nostalgia and star power to the role — making this remake one to keep on your radar.
