This year has definitely belonged to Taylor Swift! The singer has been named one of four People of the Year by the People magazine.

Taylor released her seventh studio album “Lover” on 23 August 2019, which peaked atop numerous album charts worldwide, including the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, the Netherlands, Canada and Ireland.

As part of her coverage for People, Taylor looked back on 2019 and talked about releasing a new album and standing up for herself and other artists.

The singer has had many stumbling blocks in her way this year, but she is proud that she had managed to withstand them all.

On signing a recording deal with the Universal Music Group: “I’m in a position to speak out, thankfully, so if somebody who’s younger who’s signing a record deal can learn from that, then that’s a good day. When I signed my record deal with Universal Music Group, they agreed to pay their artists a significant portion when they sell their Spotify shares. It’s a hugely important thing to me as an artist because I think that’s our pension plan, and that’s our thing we get to leave to our kids.”

On standing up for herself and others: “When you advocate for something, it has to be completely disconnected from what people say about you advocating for it. It should be removed from hard numbers.”

The issue of the People magazine featuring Taylor Swift will hit the shelves on 16 December 2019.
