Sydney Sweeney to Star as Kidnapped Bride in Rio de Janeiro–Set Remake of French Classic

Actress Sydney Sweeney is set to star in and produce That Man from Rio, a remake of the 1964 French classic directed by Philippe de Broca.
The new version will be directed by Justin Lin, known for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise, and promises to blend action, mystery, and adventure, with Rio de Janeiro serving as one of the main settings. The screenplay will be written by Chase Palmer, who co-wrote IT (2017).
In the film, Sweeney will play a kidnapped bride whose disappearance sparks an international chase for an ancient Indigenous statuette stolen from a museum in Paris. In the original version, the story follows Adrien Dufourquet, a young soldier who travels to Brazil to rescue her.
The 1964 film, which featured scenes shot in Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and the Amazon, became a landmark of European cinema and a critical and box-office success — even inspiring Steven Spielberg in the creation of the Indiana Jones franchise.
So far, there’s no word on when filming will begin or who else will join the cast.
