“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Overtakes “Avatar: The Way of Water” As Third Highest Grossing Movie of All Time

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has swung past “Avatar: The Way of Water” to become the third-highest-grossing movie in global box office history. The Tom Holland-led Marvel sequel has earned roughly $2.4 billion worldwide, placing it behind “Avatar” and “Avengers: Endgame” on the all-time chart. And that’s still not all for the wallcrawler, with more records set to be broken.
The achievement adds another milestone to an extraordinary theatrical run. “Brand New Day” became the fastest movie ever to reach $900 million at the domestic box office, according to Deadline. It has since reached about $923.5 million in North America. The film also became the highest-grossing summer release in more than a decade, surpassing the $701.3 million domestic haul of “Top Gun: Maverick.” Its performance helped push the 2026 U.S. summer box office past the previous record set in 2013.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, “Brand New Day” follows Peter Parker after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Five years have passed since Doctor Strange’s spell erased Peter’s identity from the memories of those around him. Tom Holland returns as Peter, with Zendaya as MJ. The cast also includes Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo and Florence Pugh.
The film has also become Holland’s biggest global box-office success as a solo Spider-Man, surpassing the earlier franchise entries in worldwide earnings. Its $360.1 million domestic opening weekend set the stage for a run that has held the No. 1 position for multiple weekends.
There is still another record within reach. “Brand New Day” has roughly $13.2 million left to pass “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which holds the unadjusted domestic record at $936.7 million. If Spider-Man clears that figure, Peter Parker could claim the biggest domestic box-office crown in movie history.
