Following an extended hiatus from music, Canadian singer Shawn Mendes is gearing up for a new album, the self-titled “Shawn”. Due to be released in October, “Shawn” is Mendes’ first album in four years. An album trailer, set to the tune of a new single titled “Isn’t That Enough” has been released. The black and white video captures the “Mercy” singer traipsing in nature in a laid back atmosphere. In a departure from his usual upbeat music, the track has a more stripped down, folksy vibe.
The musician’s return to the limelight comes after some difficult few years. In 2022, Mendes had to cancel his Wonder world tour due to mental health issues. In an emotional Instagram post to his 70 million plus followers, the singer-songwriter explained the difficulty that led to his decision.
“I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be away from friends and family. After a few years off the road, I felt like I was ready to dive back in, but that decision was premature and unfortunately the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point.”
Now, it seems that the 25 year-old is ready to dive back in once more.
Updating his fans on Instagram, the singer candidly admitted his private struggles for the last few years and his current state of being.
“2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was,” he wrote. “A year ago I couldn’t step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
In preparation for the upcoming studio album, Mendes will be releasing “Isn’t That Enough” and the title track “Why Why Why” on August 9.
