Ryan Gosling and Matt Smith Cast In “Star Wars: Starfighter”

Star Wars have found two major stars for their next adventure in a galaxy far, far away. “Star Wars: Starfighter”, first unveiled during Star Wars Celebration in April, has cast “Barbie” star Ryan Gosling in the lead role and “House of the Dragon” actor Matt Smith as the film’s villain. Shawn Levy is directing the film from a script by Jonathan Tropper. “X” star Mia Goth will also co-star.

At the film’s first announcement in Tokyo back in April, the Lucasfilm team revealed that the film is set five years after the events of 2019’s “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker”, which concluded the Skywalker saga and currently stands as the final feature chronologically on the Star Wars timeline. This will be the first Star Wars film since 2019 that takes place after Rey (Daisy Ridley) inherited the Skywalker saber and name at the end of the divisive saga-ender.

Casting is still currently underway for the movie. It plans to shoot in the fall and won’t hit theaters until May 2027. The star-studded pic will be a test for Star Wars’ force at the box office since the lukewarm response of the sequel trilogy. Before “Starfighter”, Lucasfilm will first have “The Mandalorian & Grogu” based off of the Disney+ hit show, slated for a May 22, 2026 release.
