The classic horror film “The Blair Witch Project” returns to theaters on September 24, 2027, in a new teaser released this afternoon by Lionsgate and Blumhouse. Check out the mysterious teaser.
The original film was released in 1999 and is still considered revolutionary today. With a modest budget of $60,000, the film grossed over $250 million at the box office. In relative terms, it was one of the most profitable projects in the horror/mystery genre.
Back when the original film was released, its independent production and the mystery surrounding it proved that a big-budget Hollywood production wasn’t necessary to make a good movie. After that, the franchise went on to produce two more films.
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 was released in 2000 with a budget of $15 million and grossed $47 million at the box office. The third film, Blair Witch, released in 2016, had a budget of $5 million and grossed $45 million at the box office.
According to Variety, executive producers include the 1999 film’s creators Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale, as well as original film cast members Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams.
