Prince George Sets to Attend Eton, Following in His Father’s Footsteps

Prince George is preparing for one of the biggest milestones of his young life. Kensington Palace has confirmed that the 12-year-old future king will enroll at Eton College this September, following in the footsteps of both his father, Prince William, and his uncle, Prince Harry. The announcement ends months of speculation over where the eldest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales would continue his education after Lambrook School.

The decision represents a return to royal tradition after William and Catherine considered several options, including Marlborough College, Catherine’s alma mater. Located just a short drive from the family’s Windsor home, Eton allows George to experience boarding school while remaining close to home. According to People, the young prince had long hoped to attend the prestigious institution, where William studied from 1995 to 2000.

Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, Eton College is one of Britain’s most prestigious schools and has educated generations of the country’s political, cultural and royal elite. Its alumni include 20 British prime ministers, among them David Cameron and Boris Johnson, as well as writers, actors and business leaders. Prince William became the first direct heir to the throne to attend Eton, with Prince Harry following three years later. George will now become the latest member of the royal family to continue that tradition.

George currently attends Lambrook School alongside his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Before that, he studied at Thomas’s Battersea in London. Palace officials have said the Prince and Princess of Wales took considerable time weighing their son’s next step, placing equal importance on academic excellence, pastoral care and allowing him to enjoy as normal a childhood as possible despite his future role as monarch.

The young royal is expected to spend the summer holidays with his family before beginning the next chapter of his education. Prince George is due to start at Eton College in September 2026, shortly after celebrating his 13th birthday in July.
