Presley Gerber, the model son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, has died at 27 after years of struggles with addiction and mental health. Gerber died September 20 at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, Calif., where he had reportedly sought treatment shortly before his death. The death comes after his sister Kaia Gerber recently described his battle with drug addiction as a “decade-long struggle.”

Gerber had spoken openly about his experiences with depression, panic attacks and substance use. In a 2023 appearance on the “Studio 22” podcast, he discussed the difficulties surrounding his mental health and his desire to help others through his experiences. He also documented his recovery efforts on social media, including a “Mental Health Mondays” series. Kaia discussed her brother’s struggles in a recent Vogue interview, where she said his openness had changed how the family approached the subject.

Gerber died at Resolutions Living, an upscale rehabilitation center in Santa Monica. The facility operates from a $7.7 million, seven-bedroom mansion and provides treatment for addiction and mental health conditions. According to the Los Angeles Times, Gerber had checked into the facility the night before his death. Emergency responders were called after reports of cardiac arrest and a suspected overdose.

Before his struggle with drug addiction became public. Gerber followed in his mother’s footsteps to become a model. He signed with IMG Models as a teenager and later appeared in campaigns for Calvin Klein, Celine and Dolce & Gabbana, as well as a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial with his mother.

Gerber is survived by his parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, and his sister Kaia. His family has requested privacy as they mourn his death. An autopsy has been completed, though the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has deferred the cause and manner of death pending additional testing. Santa Monica police are investigating the death as a suspected overdose, and the official cause of death remains pending.
