“One World: Together at Home,” a special music event co-organized by Lady Gaga on 18 April (Saturday), was watched by 20.7 million viewers in the United States alone. The star-studded virtual concert was organized by Global Citizen and the World Health Organization to raise funds to combat the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
The two-hour virtual event featured the most recognized artists in the music industry, featuring Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, the Rolling Stones, Billie Eilish, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Stevie Wonder, Lizzo, Kacey Musgraves, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. All musicians paid tribute to health care workers who battle COVID-19 on the frontlines.
“I feel very honored to be a part of the World Health Organization and Global Citizens, in the fight against COVID-19 and raising money for the Solidarity Response Fund. I care so much about all of the medical workers that are putting their lives at risk for us right now,” said Lady Gaga.
The event was hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert. The best performances of the night included Lady Gaga with “Smile,” the Rolling Stones with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” Lizzo with “A Change Is Gonna Come,” Billie Eilish & Finneas with “Sunny,” Kacey Musgraves with “Rainbow,” Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello with “What a Wonderful World,” Taylor Swift with “Soon You’ll Get Better,” Elton John with “I’m Still Standing,” and Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli with “The Prayer.”
“Thank you with all of my heart for watching #TogetherAtHome, sharing in a global moment of kindness with each other, and spreading positive and loving intentions. We love you,” tweeted Lady Gaga after the show.
The special concert raised $127.9 million for health care workers and coronavirus relief. Over $55 million will be given to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, while the remaining $73 million will be donated to local and regional responders.
