Olivia Rodrigo is ushering in her next pop era with the announcement of her third studio album, titled “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.” The album reunites Rodrigo with longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, who previously worked on her chart-topping records Sour and Guts.
The Grammy-winning artist unveiled the project on social media alongside its much-discussed cover art, featuring Rodrigo suspended upside down on a swing in a soft pink dress. The image is already generating robust conversations online for its contrast to the album’s bittersweet title.
With Nigro, the songstress launched one of the most successful pop debuts in recent memory with two back-to-back No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Rodrigo’s first album, “Sour,” produced global hits like “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U,” while her sophomore record, “Guts,” continued her momentum with the No. 1 single “Vampire.”
Rodrigo’s rise has been swift and commercially dominant. Her debut album became one of the best-selling releases of 2021 and earned multiple Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, while its follow-up was among the most critically acclaimed albums of 2023.
Early details about the third album point to a continuation of her confessional songwriting style, with Rodrigo describing the project as a collection of “sad love songs” that explore romance, insecurity and emotional complexity.
The rollout has been closely watched across social platforms, where fans have dissected everything from the album’s lowercase styling to its pastel-toned imagery, a departure from the purple aesthetic that were synonymous with her first two album arts. Her highly publicized romance with actor Louis Partridge – which reportedly ended earlier this year – is adding intrigue to the release, with fans theorizing how the album will chronicle their doomed relationship.
“you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love” is due out June 12, 2026.
