Netflix’s Scooby-Doo Reboot Finds Its Mystery Inc  Gang

The Mystery Gang for Netflix’s Scooby-Doo remake is assembled. Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Fortson, and Maxwell Jenkins are joining McKenna Grace – previously announced to play Daphne Blake – to round out the cast.

Hagen is stepping into the role of Shaggy Rogers, with Fortson playing the gang’s brainiac Velma Dinkley and Jenkins as team hunk Fred Jones.

The series, ordered for eight episodes, is described as a modern reimagining and origin story for the beloved franchise. Rather than dropping viewers into an already-formed Mystery Inc., the show follows how the group first comes together. The story centers on Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp, where they stumble upon a supernatural mystery tied to a lost Great Dane puppy — widely expected to become Scooby-Doo.

As the mystery deepens, they join forces with Velma, portrayed as a pragmatic and scientifically minded outsider, and Fred, a charismatic newcomer with his own secrets. Together, the group investigates a case involving possible murder and hidden connections that pull them into a larger conspiracy.

The casting marks a notable shift toward a younger ensemble, aligning with the show’s coming-of-age tone while maintaining the core dynamics that have defined the franchise since its 1969 debut. The reboot is produced by Greg Berlanti and developed by writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg. Berlanti was behind some of the most celebrated young adult-leaning genre shows like Riverdale and Arrow.

The series is currently deep in pre-production, with filming set to begin this year.
