Mirra Andreeva’s rise from teenage prodigy to Grand Slam champion is complete. The 19-year-old Russian star captured her first major title Saturday at Roland-Garros, defeating Poland’s Maja Chwalińska 6-3, 6-2 to win the French Open and become the youngest women’s champion in Paris since Monica Seles in 1992.
The victory caps a remarkable climb for Andreeva, who entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed and one of the sport’s brightest young talents. While many viewed her as a future Grand Slam winner, she arrived in Paris without a major title on her résumé. Two weeks later, she leaves with the Coupe Suzanne-Lenglen and a place in tennis history.
Andreeva was dominant throughout the tournament. According to tournament statistics, she dropped only one set across seven matches and never looked seriously threatened during the championship match against Chwalińska, the surprise qualifier who became the first woman to reach a Roland-Garros final after coming through qualifying.
The French Open has already been a defining tournament in Andreeva’s young career. She burst onto the international scene with a semifinal run in Paris in 2024 and followed it with consecutive deep Grand Slam performances.
