Miley Cyrus Reunites With Selena Gomez at the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special

Selena Gomez makes a surprise appearance in the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, reuniting with Miley Cyrus nearly two decades after guest-starring as Hannah’s pop rival Mikayla. The special, now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu, revisits the legacy of the hit Disney Channel series through a mix of interviews, performances and archival footage. 

Gomez’s segment plays as both nostalgic and reflective. Reuniting with Cyrus on stage, the two revisit their early careers and the dynamic between Hannah Montana and Mikayla, a rivalry that became a fan-favorite storyline. In the special, Gomez also acknowledges the intensity of those early years, with both stars reflecting on how their friendship has evolved since their Disney days. 

The cameo is one of several highlights in the hour-long event. Hosted by Alex Cooper, the special features Cyrus stepping back into Hannah Montana’s world — including reconstructed sets like the Stewart home and performances of signature songs such as “The Best of Both Worlds” and “The Climb.”

Other appearances include Billy Ray Cyrus, who reprises his role as Robby Ray in conversation segments with his daughter, as well as celebrity guests like Chappell Roan and Lainey Wilson, who speak to the show’s cultural impact. Former cast members such as Jason Earles and Cody Linley also appear in select segments, revisiting their time on the series. 

Filmed in front of a live audience, the special blends reunion energy with a retrospective tone, focusing on how Hannah Montana shaped a generation of viewers — and launched multiple careers, including Gomez’s own with The Wizards of Waverly Place.

For longtime fans, Gomez’s return adds another layer to the celebration, reconnecting two of Disney Channel’s most recognizable stars in a project that looks back while acknowledging how far they’ve come.
