Meghan Markle Rejoins Instagram on New Year’s Day

Seven years after deleting her social media account in preparation of joining the Royal Family, the Duchess of Sussex has returned to Instagram. On January 1, the Suits star launched her new Instagram handle, @meghan. The account’s first post is a video of Markle, clad in head to toe white, frolicking on the beach and scribbling “2025” in the sand. The video is said to have been shot by none other than Harry himself at a beach near the couple’s home in Montecito, California.

The return to social media marks another step for Markle in her effort to rebuild her brand after she and Harry stepped down from royal duties in 2020. At the time, the couple’s online presence was exclusively channeled through the official @sussexroyal account. It closed down after the duo were prohibited from using the Sussex Royal brand. Since then, the couple has built their charity and media ventures through the Beverly Hills-based Archewell Inc banner.

Prior to her marriage to Harry, Markle was an avid social media user. On her old Insta account, which was shuttered in 2018, she regularly posted updates on her travels, her home, and her daily life. Markle also ran a lifestyle blog called The Tig, which went dark in 2017 as her romance with the British royal became more serious.
