Lili Reinhart Pays Homage to Romcom Icons For “The Love Hypothesis” Press Run

Lili Reinhart is treating “The Love Hypothesis” press tour like a trip through the golden age of the romantic comedy. The actress has built a wardrobe around some of the genre’s most recognizable fashion moments, with stylist Ib Abdel Nasser sourcing vintage pieces and runway looks that reference movies such as “13 Going on 30,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “Mean Girls.”

The fashion campaign began with a playful nod to “Mean Girls.” In Los Angeles, Reinhart wore a pink cardigan over a floral-embellished mini skirt set from Leo Lin’s Resort 2027 collection, echoing the early-2000s look associated with Regina George. For a Brazil appearance, she wore a butter-yellow 2000s Caché gown that referenced Kate Hudson’s famous Carolina Herrera dress from “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.” The “Riverdale” alum even used Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” in her Instagram post about the look. Nasser told ELLE that the press tour would pay homage to leading ladies from the genre’s earlier era.

The “13 Going on 30” tribute became especially literal. Reinhart’s stylist tracked down the original Nanette Lepore coat Jennifer Garner wore as Jenna Rink in the 2004 movie. Reinhart paired the coat with a brown lace-trimmed Fleur du Mal slip dress and vintage Jimmy Choo kitten heels during the New York leg of the tour.

For the New York premiere, Reinhart referenced Brittany Murphy’s outfit from 2004’s “Uptown Girls” for her pink-and-green Elie Saab look from the designer’s Spring 2004 Haute Couture collection. The ensemble came with Jimmy Choo heels and Elisa Johnson sunglasses.

Other movie looks the actress paid homage to include the silvery dress worn by Drew Barrymore in “Ever After”, Sandra Bullock’s purple Herve Leger wrap dress from “Miss Congeniality”, and the iconic green dress Keira Knightley wore in “Atonement” (which was definitely not a romcom, but has carved its place in romance hall of fame).

“The Love Hypothesis” stars Reinhart as Olive Smith, a Stanford biology Ph.D. candidate who enters a fake relationship with intimidating professor Adam Carlsen, played by Tom Bateman. Their pretend romance eventually develops into something real. Based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel, the film is directed by Claire Scanlon and written by Sarah Rothschild.

“The Love Hypothesis” premieres September 23 on Prime Video.
