The game has changed once again. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for “Jumanji: Open World,” the third installment of the modern Jumanji series, reuniting Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan for what the studio bills as the franchise’s final adventure. The preview raises the stakes by turning the series’ familiar premise inside out as the world of Jumanji spills into reality, forcing its heroes to save both dimensions. See the trailer below!
The trailer opens with Spencer Gilpin (Alex Wolff) encountering strange glitches that suggest the game has escaped its console. Soon, Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Johnson), Professor Shelly Oberon (Black), Mouse Finbar (Hart) and Ruby Roundhouse (Gillan) appear in the real world, though something has gone wrong. The avatars become trapped in “demo mode,” creating unexpected body swaps and fresh comedic chaos. Explosive action, stampeding wildlife and new fantastical creatures hint at the biggest scale the franchise has attempted, while longtime ally Nigel Billingsley returns to warn that Jumanji itself faces collapse.
Jake Kasdan returns to direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Alongside the returning quartet, the ensemble includes Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, Rhys Darby, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris, Burn Gorman and Nasim Pedrad. The story continues the saga launched by 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, both of which transformed the beloved board game into a video game universe and together earned more than $1.7 billion worldwide.
Sony first unveiled footage from Jumanji: Open World during CinemaCon before debuting the full trailer this week. The film promises to bring the current era of the franchise to its conclusion, with the game’s boundaries finally disappearing altogether.
Jumanji: Open World is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on December 25, 2026.
