Jessica Pegula defeated Shelby Rogers 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the US Open and advanced to the second round. Jessica Pegula took almost 90 minutes to hold off Shelby Rogers in an emotional match.
“I knew, coming into this match, there was a lot of challenges and a lot of weird variables on my plate—playing an American, playing Shelby, knowing it could be her last match, coming in on a great couple of weeks and all of a sudden turning into one of the favorites when my year hasn’t been that great has been kind of crazy. I’m happy I was able to deal with all that tonight and hopefully I can keep improving as the tournament goes on,” said Jessica Pegula in a post-match interview.
Jessica Pegula will face Sofia Kenin for a place in the third round. Jessica already faced off Sofia a couple of times already with their H2H score being 2-2. Last time they met, Kenin won 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the 2024 French Open.
