Jesse Eisenberg Is Directing A Comedy Musical Starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti

Jesse Eisenberg is known as an Oscar-nominated actor, known for his work in films like The Social Network, Zombieland and Now You See Me. However, he’s also a prolific director. The 41-year-old actor just premiered his sophomore feature film, A Real Pain, and he’s already announcing his next directorial effort, a comedy musical starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti.

The as yet untitled movie will follow a shy woman who is unexpectedly cast in a local production of an original musical. Under the spell of the strong-willed and enigmatic director, she loses herself in the role and the high-stakes world of this community theater production. 

The project reunites Eisenberg with Topic Studios and Fruit Tree, who also produced A Real Pain. Fruit Tree also backed the star’s 2022 directorial debut When You Finish Saving the World starring Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard and Moore, making this a back-to-back collaboration between Eisenberg and the Oscar-winning actress. The production company Fruit Tree is founded by Eisenberg’s Zombieland co-star Emma Stone alongside her husband Dave McCary and Ali Herting.

Not only directing, Eisenberg will also be involved in the new film’s screenplay and original music. Production is set to begin in early 2025. Meanwhile, the star’s got a full slate on the actor side of things. He’s just wrapped the magician heist comedy Now You See Me 3, due out in 2025, and will be starring in The Zellner Brothers’ Sasquatch Sunset.
