After two years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have called it quits again. On August 20, the second anniversary of their wedding, Lopez officially filed for divorce from the “Argo” director. In the filing document, the “On The Floor” singer listed April 26, 2024 as the date of their separation.
The divorce comes after a very public breakup between the celebrated couple. The two rekindled their romance in 2021 after famously breaking off their engagement way back in 2004. On July 17, 2022, Affleck and Lopez shared through Instagram that they’d gotten hitched in Las Vegas. An official ceremony was later held on August 20, 2022 in Affleck’s Savannah estate.
The two first became a couple in 2003 after meeting on the set of the romantic drama “Gigli”. They quickly became a tabloid staple, earning the nickname “Bennifer” and inviting media circus everywhere they went. The whirlwind attention proved too much for the couple and they officially ended things in 2004.
Affleck went on to marry his “Daredevil” co-star Jennifer Garner in 2005 and shares three children with her: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12. They divorced in 2018 after years of marital struggle propelled by Affleck’s battle with drinking and gambling addictions.
In 2004, Lopez married fellow Latin musician Marc Anthony. They have two kids, twins Max and Emme, 16. The pair split in 2014. After the divorce, the “Jenny From The Block” diva was in a longtime relationship with baseball player Alex Rodriquez from 2017-2021.
Bennifer’s second breakup came as a shock to fans. After all, it feels like a dreamy scenario straight out of Lopez’s romcoms when they announced their reunion after 17 years apart. In February this year, Lopez even depicted their rekindled romance in her Prime Video documentary, “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story”.
Alas, sources say that their differing personalities and approach to public lives became too difficult to reconcile.
