After the global success of 2024’s The Beekeeper, which grossed $162.6 million worldwide, Jason Statham isn’t wasting time returning for a sequel. The Beekeeper 2 is officially underway, with Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto set to helm the film. The original film’s director, David Ayer, will now act as a producer on the film instead.
The first film revolves around a retired intelligence operative who seeks to avenge his landlady after she got scammed out of her charity money and killed herself. The film co-starred Emily Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Minnie Driver, and Phylicia Rashad. Made on a $40 million budget, the actioner ended up making four times that… which in Hollywood terms means one thing: sequel time.
Filming for the sequel will begin in the fall. Miramax will once again produce, this time on a deal with Amazon/MGM to handle its US release. Its new director Tjahjanto is no stranger to action films, having directed The Shadow Strays, The Night Comes for Us, The Big Four, and Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk.
