She did it again! Iga Swiatek won her fourth Roland Garros title (third in a row) by beating Jasmine Paolini 6-2 6-1 in the grand finale on Saturday (June 8). This is officially the fifth Grand Slam title for Iga who has been officially known now as the Queen of Clay or Queen of Paris.
Iga Swiatek became only the second tennis player in history (after Serena Williams) to win the titles in Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros in the same calendar year. This is called a hat trick, isn’t?
The Pole defeated Naomi Osaka, Marketa Vondrousova and Coco Gauff on her way to the final.
“This tournament has been pretty surreal with its beginning and with second round, and then I was able to get my game better and better every match. I’m really proud of myself, because the expectations obviously have been pretty high from the outside. Pressure, as well. I’m happy that I just went for it and I was ready to deal with all of this. Yeah, and I could win. Looking at the whole situation and the fact that during the finals there is sometimes a lot of pressure, I think it was a really good match. I got broken at the beginning, so it wasn’t maybe perfect, but I think the level was pretty high. It wasn’t so easy as the score says. I think I played pretty well considering all these facts and the pressure,” said Iga.
Congratulations champion!
