Iga Swiatek knocked out Ena Shibahara 6-0, 6-1 in the second round of the US Open and advanced to the third round. Swiatek took roughly one hour to hold off Shibahara in a match which was a total domination and display of tennis power of World No. 1.
“I’m happy with everything, basically, being really solid and being proactive,” said Iga Swiatek in a post-match interview. “I just felt the rhythm much better. I was a bit tense on my last match. So today I wanted to focus on myself and what I wanted to do on court. I wasn’t really focusing on a score. I just wanted to focus on technicalities and what I practiced yesterday and trying to convert it to my match. I was just trying to stay in the zone. It didn’t matter to me if it was 3-all or 6-1. I just want to keep playing the same way.”
Iga Swiatek will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Saturday for a place in the fourth round.
