Iga Świątek is enlisting a key member of Rafael Nadal’s longtime team Francisco Roig as she looks to reset her 2026 season. The move comes in the wake of the world No. 1’s split from Wim Fissette, her coach of 17 months, following a string of underwhelming results that culminated in a shock early exit at the Miami Open.
Roig will serve as the Polish star’s new coach. The Spaniard is a veteran who spent nearly two decades working alongside Nadal during one of the most dominant runs in men’s tennis (2005-2022).
Fissette’s tenure included notable highs — most prominently Świątek’s Wimbledon title — but the partnership ended after a dip in form during the early part of 2026, with the former world No. 1 failing to advance beyond the quarterfinal stage in multiple tournaments.
Roig arrives with a résumé closely tied to Nadal’s success, having been part of the Spaniard’s coaching setup during 16 of his Grand Slam victories. His appointment also follows a brief stint coaching other players on tour before joining Świątek’s camp.
Świątek has already begun training at the Rafa Nadal Academy, sharing glimpses of clay-court sessions as she prepares for the European swing. The training block, which included time on Nadal’s preferred surface, comes as she aims to recalibrate ahead of the French Open, a tournament where she has historically thrived.
At just 24, Świątek already boasts one of the most decorated résumés of her generation, including multiple Grand Slam titles — highlighted by four French Open victories — along with a Wimbledon crown and a sustained run at world No. 1.
