Iga Swiatek defeated Madison Keys 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open and advanced to the semifinals. Swiatek took more than two hours to hold off Keys in a thrilling and rollercoaster match between the two, where Iga even got bageled for the first time in 4 years!
“Honestly, it was one of the weirdest matches I’ve ever played. I didn’t feel like [the first set] was that bad. I felt the ball well — it just went super long. I tried to play a bit shorter, and with some mistakes by Maddy, the momentum changed in the end. I’m happy that I did it,” said Iga Swiatek in a post-match interview.
Iga Swiatek will face Coco Gauff on Thursday for a place in the final.
