Iga Swiatek Defeats Liudmila Samsonova to Advance to the US Open 2024 Quarterfinals

Iga Swiatek defeated Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-1  in the fourth round of the US Open and advanced to the quarterfinals. Swiatek took roughly one hour and half to hold off Samsonova in a thrilling match between the two.

“At the beginning I felt like we were playing men’s style tennis, holding serve every game. But I knew if I kept pushing I would have chances to break her serve. In the second I just wanted to keep being focused and not let my mind drift off,” said Iga Swiatek in a post-match interview.

Iga Swiatek will face Jessica Pegula on Wednesday for a place in the semifinals.
