HBO has unveiled its most detailed look yet at its “Harry Potter” series, with the new trailer giving fans extended glimpses of beloved characters from the Wizarding World. The footage also spends more time with Dominic McLaughlin’s Harry Potter and his fellow Hogwarts students, as the new adaptation prepares to revisit J.K. Rowling’s debut novel with room for materials that the 2001 movie left out. Click to see below!
Nostalgia and magic convene as the trailer unfolds with iconic moments from the mega bestselling book, teasing Harry’s adventure after discovering he is a wizard bound for magical education at Hogwarts. The footage includes the Sorting Ceremony, Harry’s first Quidditch match and his discovery of the Invisibility Cloak. It also offers a sneak peek at the Mirror of Erised, the dungeon troll sequence and a host of notable characters like Draco Malfoy, Seamus Finnigan, and Professor Quirrell.
Several moments give the series a chance to explore parts of “Philosopher’s Stone” that received little or no screen time in the original film. The extended television format allows the story to spend more time inside Hogwarts, with additional student interactions and classroom material. The trailer also gives greater attention to the friendships between Harry, Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout) and Hermione Granger (Arabella Stanton) as the trio face the danger lurking beneath the school.
The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Pappa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick and Sirine Saba as Professor Sprout. Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner and writer, while “Succession” director Mark Mylod directs multiple episodes. HBO plans to devote a full season to each book, which gives the series a much longer runway than the film adaptations.
HBO has already renewed the series for Season 2, which will adapt “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” Production is underway, with Kit Harington now set to play Gilderoy Lockhart after replacing Nicholas Hoult.
The first season, titled “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” premieres December 25, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.
