HBO Greenlights Season 4 of “House of the Dragon” Extending Westeros Programming Through 2028

HBO has officially renewed House of the Dragon for a fourth season, setting the Targaryen saga to continue on the network through at least 2028. The announcement came during an HBO press presentation in New York, signaling the network’s commitment to keeping the Game of Thrones universe a yearly event.
Season 3 of the fiery prequel is slated to arrive in summer 2026. At the same event, HBO CEO Casey Bloys revealed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms another Westeros-set prequel has already secured a Season 2 renewal ahead of its January 18 series premiere. With that, fans can expect new stories from George R. R. Martin’s world every year for the next several years.
Adapted from Martin’s Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon chronicles the Targaryen dynasty roughly 200 years before Game of Thrones. The series stars Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin and Abubakar Salim.
Ryan Condal continues as creator and showrunner, working alongside executive producers George R. R. Martin, Sara Hess, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Vince Gerardis, David Hancock and Philippa Goslett.
“We’re thrilled to deliver new seasons of both series over the next three years for the devoted fans of the Game of Thrones universe,” said Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming. “Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showcase just how expansive and richly developed George R. R. Martin’s world truly is. This January, viewers will be drawn to the heartfelt underdog story of Dunk and Egg and this summer, House of the Dragon will return with some of its most breathtaking battles yet.”
