After an extensive casting process, HBO’s reboot of the J.K. Rowling’s book series has sorted its Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger.

Dominic McLaughlin will play the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton is Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout is Ron Weasley. The three beat out more than 30,000 actors auditioning for the lead roles since HBO launched an open casting call last fall.

McLaughlin is a child actor whose credit includes Sky comedy “Grow” with future Harry Potter co-star Nick Frost (playing Hogwarts Gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid). Stanton played the lead role in the musical “Matilda” on the West End from 2023 to 2024. Meanwhile, Stanton will be making his acting debut in the series.

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione and Ron,” said showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod in a statement. “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

The three young actors will join an ensemble supporting cast that counts Frost, John Lithgow (as Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (as Minerva McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (as Severus Snape), and Luke Thallon (as Professor Quirrell).

Filming is expected to begin this summer.
