The film, titled “Maria,” will be based on real accounts from friends and acquaintances of the iconic diva. It will tell the tumultuous, beautiful, and tragic life story of one of the greatest opera singers in the world. As reported by “The Hollywood Reporter,” the focus will be on her final days in Paris in the 1970s. The filming has already commenced and will take place over eight weeks in Paris, Greece, Budapest, and Milan.
In addition to Jolie, the cast includes Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Valeria Golino. The screenplay, completed before the WGA strike, was written by Steven Knight. FilmNation Entertainment will handle the global sales of the film “Maria.”
