First Look at “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” as Lionsgate Unveils New Hunger Games Prequel Trailer

Lionsgate has released the debut trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the newest entry in the Hunger Games franchise, set to hit theaters on November 20, 2026.
Based on the 2025 novel, the film travels 24 years into Panem’s past to follow a young Haymitch Abernathy, now played by Joseph Zada. The story unfolds during the 50th Hunger Games the infamous Second Quarter Quell in which every district is forced to send twice as many tributes. This time, 48 children enter the arena, and only one will survive.
The trailer offers the first glimpse of Zada in the role originally portrayed by Woody Harrelson. The cast also features Elle Fanning as a younger Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, and Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, the Capitol’s showman host. Jesse Plemons appears as an early version of Plutarch Heavensbee.
Additional cast members include Kelvin Harrison Jr., Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, Mckenna Grace, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Percy Daggs IV, expanding the world of Panem with new faces and fresh interpretations of familiar figures.
