The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards lit up Los Angeles on September 14 with shock wins, historic moments, and long-awaited recognition. Medical drama The Pitt, Hollywood satire The Studio, and crime drama Adolescence were among the big winners.
This year’s Emmys, hosted by Nate Bargatze at the Peacock Theater, delivered in unexpected ways. The Studio, Apple TV+’s new comedy, broke records by securing 13 wins in a single ceremony — the most ever for a comedy series. Not only did it snag Outstanding Comedy Series, but Seth Rogen himself walked away with multiple trophies.
Over in drama, The Pitt was crowned Outstanding Drama Series, giving Noah Wyle his first win in that category. Severance, which led all shows in nominations this year with 27, got several acting wins — Britt Lower won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama, while Tramell Tillman made history as the first Black man to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama for his work on that show.
Another big story: Adolescence, Netflix’s limited/anthology series, took the award for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Fifteen-year-old Owen Cooper won for Supporting Actor, making him the youngest male Emmy winner ever in that category. Erin Doherty also won for Supporting Actress.
Other highs included Jean Smart winning yet again (for Hacks) and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert taking Outstanding Talk Series in its swan song year. The latter received a rousing standing ovation as he took the stage with the show’s key staff — a meaningful tribute following an abrupt cancellation that rocked the entertainment world earlier this summer.
With The Studio dominating, The Pitt re-emerging, Severance’s cast breaking barriers, and Adolescence reminding us of youthful, ambitious storytelling, Emmys 2025 wasn’t just another awards show — it was a night of shaking up expectations, giving new voices their due, and honoring long-awaited turns.
