Coco Gauff was upset by fellow American Emma Navarro 3-6, 4-6, 3-6 in the fourth round of the US Open who won the match and advanced to the quarterfinals. Navarro took almost two hours to hold off Gauff in a thrilling match.
“Overall, I think I played well for the most part. I just didn’t take care of my serve, so that was the biggest difference. Too many free points on my serve,” said Coco Gauff in a post-match interview. “I definitely want to get other opinions because … I think it’s sometimes more of an emotional, mental thing because if I go out on the practice court right now, I would make, like, 30 serves in a row. I’ve done it before. I think it’s also just kind of a mental hurdle that I have to get over when it comes with that. But, yeah, I definitely want to look at other things because I don’t want to lose matches like this anymore.”
Emma Navarro will face Paula Badosa on Tuesday for a place in the semifinals.
