From Tiktok to the Great White Way!
TikTok star Charli D’Amelio is making her Broadway debut in the musical “& Juliet”, a revisionist take on the Shakespeare classic “Romeo and Juliet”. Taking on the “dance-heavy role” of Charmian, the 20-year-old will perform for a limited three-month engagement through Jan. 19, 2025.
“To be able to make my Broadway debut – especially in the cast of ‘& Juliet’ — is truly a dream come true, and I can’t wait to share this experience with everyone,” D’Amelio said in a statement.
D’Amelio found fame through various dancing videos she made on TikTok. Today, she has amassed 155 million followers on the platform and established herself as one of its top tier content creators. But, that’s not her only dancing pedigree: the Connecticut native is a classically trained dancer who had been pro for a decade before venturing into the video-sharing app in 2019. She also just won season 31 of Dancing with the Stars with dancer and choreographer Mark Ballas.
While some pegged D’Amelio’s casting as a mere publicity stunt, she has since received positive reviews for her performance. Beside taking the stage at the musical’s Stephen Sondheim Theatre on a daily basis, she remains active on TikTok.
