The Australian Open 2025 women's final saw the emergence of a new Grand Slam winner as American Madison Keys defeated Belarusia’s Aryna Sabalenka – a two-time defending champion – 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. The win marks the No. 19 player’s first-ever Grand Slam title.

On Sunday, world No. 1 player Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Australian Open title against Germany’s Alexander Zverev, 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3. The win marks Sinner’s third Grand Slam title, making him the first Italian to do so.

Iga Swiatek knocked out Emma Raducanu 6-1, 6-0 in the third round of the Australian Open and advanced to the fourth round. Swiatek took roughly one hour to hold off Raducanu in a business-as-usual match.

Coco Gauff beated Belinda Bencic 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth round of the Australian Open and advanced to the quarterfinals. Gauff took two hours and a half to hold off Bencic in a thrilling and emotional match.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Mirra Andreeva 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth round of the Australian Open and advanced to the quarterfinals. Sabalenka took roughly one hour to hold off Andreeva in a business-as-usual match.

Ahead of the 2025 Australian Open, world no. 6 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan finds herself mired in a controversy surrounding her coach, Stefano Vukov, which has been suspended by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) amid ongoing investigation into his conduct. 

In the run up to the Australian Open early next year, United Cup has kicked off its third edition in Perth and Sydney. The mixed gender tournament had its opening matches on Friday, December 27. A total of 18 countries participate in this year’s tournament, which include some of the biggest names in pro tennis.

In September and October this year, World No. 2 Iga Swiatek missed three tournaments: Korea Open (September 16-22), China Open (September 25 -October 6) and Wuhan Open (October 7-13). Now, it has come to light that during that period, the Polish player was actually under suspension after testing positive for the prohibited substance trimetazidine (TMZ). The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed it on Thursday.
