The women of Monterey are heading back to TV. HBO confirmed that Big Little Lies will return for a third season, reuniting its star-studded cast six years after the last chapter aired. Read more to see who’s back!

Nicole Kidman, who not only stars but also executive produces, has been dropping hints for months. “We are working on it,” she told Variety earlier this year, adding that she’s thrilled to continue telling stories about “female friendship, motherhood, and resilience.” Reese Witherspoon echoed her excitement on Instagram, writing: “It’s happening! Couldn’t be happier to be back with my Monterey family.”

The cast announcement comes after Shailene Woodley fueled speculation with an Instagram post featuring Zoë Kravitz and Laura Dern, cheekily captioned: “We ARE so back… Season 3, you ready???” HBO later confirmed that Francesca Sloane (Mr. & Mrs. Smith) will pen the opening episode and join Kidman, Witherspoon, and creator David E. Kelley as executive producer.

Based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, the drama first premiered in 2017 and followed a group of mothers in Monterey whose lives unravel after a murder rocks their upper class community. Season 2, which aired in 2019, introduced Meryl Streep as Mary Louise, instantly becoming a cultural moment despite mixed critical reception.

Zoë Kravitz recently admitted she’s “waiting by the phone” for scripts but said she’s “excited to dive back into these women’s messy, complicated lives.”

Witherspoon summed it up best: “This story isn’t finished.” Given the series’ pedigree—16 Emmy nominations, 8 wins, and Golden Globes to boot—Big Little Lies has more than earned its next chapter. Commercially beloved and critically acclaimed, Monterey’s secrets are ready to spill once again.
