Despite some technical glitches, Beyoncé’s historic Christmas Day Halftime Show, the first to be live streamed worldwide on Netflix, drew huge viewership on the platform. Aired as part of the Houston Texans – Baltimore Ravens NFL game and titled A Cowboy Carter Christmas after the pop diva’s debut country album Cowboy Carter, the performance was watched by more than 27 million viewers in the US alone.
During the 13-minute performance, the multi Grammy-winning artist performed several songs off of her Cowboy Carter album as well as her own renditions of classic hits like Dolly Parton’s Jolene and The Beatles’ Blackbird. Clad in all-white cowboy getup alongside a legion of dancers in matching outfits, Beyoncé descended into the stage at the NRG Stadium on literal horseback, kicking off the show with 16 Carriage. It was followed in quick succession with renditions of Blackbird, Ya Ya, and Riverdance. Shaboozey then joined her on stage for Sweet Honey Buckin’, followed by Post Malone who sang a duet of Levi’s Jeans with the superstar.
After singing Jolene atop a moving convertible, Beyoncé brought the house down – and the show to a close – with a rendition of her Billboard No. 1 hit Texas Hold ‘Em. Here, the singer’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, joined her on stage to do a square dance together.
“I’m so honored to be in Texas right now,” the 43-year-old singer said. “It’s only right that we do ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ for the first time in Houston, Texas on Christmas.”
The halftime show is now available as a standalone program titled Beyoncé Bowl on Netflix.
