In the wake of the raging wildfires that currently engulf Los Angeles, stars like Beyoncé, Jennifer Garner, and more are extending help through charitable efforts.
Through her charity foundation, BeyGOOD, global superstar Beyoncé has donated $2.5 million to the newly launched LA Fire Relief Fund.
Per a statement by the Bey GOOD team: “the fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires.”
Founded in 2013, the BeyGOOD foundation concentrates on economic equity, by “supporting marginalized and under-resourced programs,” according to its mission statement.
Actress Jennifer Garner is actively working with non-profit organization World Central Kitchen to hand out meals to firefighters and evacuees in Altadena, which has been impacted by the Eaton Fire.
World Central Kitchen also received a generous contribution from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle through their Archewell Foundation, with whom they share a longstanding tie. Additionally, the couple donated clothing, children’s items and other essential supplies to the main donation center. They also visited the evacuation site in Pasadena to serve meals and thank other volunteers.
Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, who was forced to evacuate her Pacific Palisades home in the early days of the fire, pledged to donate $1 million to start a “fund of support” to those affected by the blazes. In an emotional interview with Jimmy Fallon last week, the actress lamented how her entire neighborhood was wiped out by the fire and urged people to “do anything you can, anything in your community to help people.”
Another celebrity whose home burnt to the ground was Paris Hilton. In the wake of the tragedy, Hilton is launching an emergency fund through her nonprofit 11:11 Media Impact to “support displaced families with young children.”
She wrote, “I’m starting with a personal contribution of $100,000 and will be matching additional dollars raised up to $100,000 more.”
Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria said that she will be matching the donations made to the organization This is About Humanity for up to $50,000 for frontline essential workers and families impacted by the fires. The actress has also opened her home to friends needing to shelter after evacuation orders went into effect.
Reality star and makeup mogul Kylie Jenner has pledged to “help support the communities affected” by donating to the California Fire Foundation Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund, an extension of the California Fire Foundation.”
Kylie and the rest of her Kardashian-Jenner siblings have been forced to flee their homes in Calabasas, Calif., according to reports.
The still-raging LA Fire has encroached on over 50,000 acres of land and displaced at least 130,000 people. Death toll currently stands at 24.
